Getting Around Milan
Milan has an excellent public transport network, making it easy to travel between hotels, tourist attractions, railway stations, shopping districts and sporting venues. The Milan Metro is generally the quickest way to travel around the city, supported by an extensive network of trams, buses, trolleybuses and suburban rail services. Tickets can be purchased at Metro stations and authorised retailers, through the official ATM Milano app, or travellers can use contactless payment on supported services. A standard Mi1–Mi3 ticket currently costs €2.20 and is valid for 90 minutes, while a 24-hour ticket costs €7.60 and a three-day ticket costs €15.50.
Travelling from Milan Malpensa Airport
Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is conveniently connected with central Milan by the Malpensa Express train. Direct services operate between the airport and key Milan stations, including Milano Centrale, while services also connect with Milano Cadorna. The journey between Malpensa Terminal 1 and Milano Centrale takes approximately 51 minutes, while Malpensa to Milano Cadorna can take around 37 minutes. The standard adult fare between Milan and Malpensa is currently €15 each way, making the Malpensa Express a straightforward option for travelling between MXP Airport and Milan city centre.

The Milan Metro is one of the easiest ways to explore the city, with services connecting many of Milan’s most popular areas, attractions and transport hubs. The network provides convenient access to destinations across the city, while Milan’s famous tram network offers another excellent way to get around. Visitors staying for several days may find a daily or three-day ATM ticket more convenient than purchasing individual journeys, particularly when making multiple trips by Metro, tram and bus.
